SAFEchild provides guidance on child protection issues in line with current child protection legislation and promotes the Government's "Every Child Matters" agenda. Established in 1999, SAFEchild is a registered charity and is dedicated to promoting the welfare of all children and young people. Safeguarding children and young people should be of paramount importance to everyone, not least because all organisations have a 'duty of care' towards all those who are involved with or who attend their activities. The Victoria Climbié, Bichard and Baby "P" Inquiries, along with Lord Laming's Progress Report clearly illustrate the overwhelming consequences for children and organisations when child abuse occurs. Specifically, they have caused a major shift in government policy to make the protection of children and young people everyone's business. In Working Together to Safeguard Children 2010, paragraph 2.11 clearly says all organisations that provide services for children, parents or families; or work with children, should have a clear commitment and priority to safeguarding by having effective arrangements in place for all aspects of safeguarding including policies, procedures, rigorous recruitment, training, a culture of listening and working with other organisations and agencies.
Backed by a multi agency team of very experienced and highly qualified child protection professionals, SAFEchild provides a comprehensive range of services to help keep children safe. We always take a straightforward and practical approach to child protection, for example we provide online guidance templates for child protection policies and procedures, which you can simply adapt and adopt. We also offer online child protection training courses, CRB checks, up to the minute child protection information and a full range of consultancy services. Through membership of SAFEchild, you can access a package of child protection support including our online guidance templates for policies and procedures, a review of your current safeguarding arrangements by one of our child protection experts, email support during business hours on any general child protection issues that may arise and regular bulletins on child protection issues. Once your safeguarding arrangements meet our standards you can also use the SAFEchild logos within your publicity.
